The mission statement that runs in all of our books says, “At Barefoot Books, we celebrate art and story that opens the hearts and minds of children from all walks of life.” Our content team is passionately committed to creating books that are inclusive for children of all races, genders, abilities and backgrounds. So when we saw a call for papers about diversity, inclusion and equality in children’s literature, we were all over it!


The long-awaited Family Trees: A Celebration of Children’s Literature exhibition has finally arrived! We’ve shown you the progress of Sophie Fatus‘s ornaments inspired by her illustrations in The Story Tree, now see the final decorated Christmas Tree in our gallery. Check out this and 37 other trees inspired by children’s stories at the Concord Museum now through January 1st. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for seniors, $6 children (4-18); children under 4 and Members are Free. All proceeds from Family Trees will go toward the Concord Museum’s education initiatives.


Fans of our Barefoot bear will know that he is now officially ten years old. His latest adventure, Bear’s Birthday, came into the world in June. He had to wait a little while, though, for his birthday to be properly celebrated. Here he is at the Bath Festival of Children’s Literature, where 22 small children came along with their very own bears to help him celebrate.
