I am mum to four pretty special children – Meaghan, Kristen, Erin and Jordie – best friend and soul mate to my husband, Marty, and passionate entrepreneur. I have been living Barefoot for nearly 20 years, my kids have all grown up Barefoot and the boundaries between my home life and Barefoot life are pretty blurred. I love the creative process, whether it is making a book, designing a catalogue, or creating one of our flagship Studios. I love the energy and excitement of running an entrepreneurial business, of taking risks in a relatively traditional industry, and carving out a path not yet taken.

Oh, the bittersweet transition from the lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer…

I relish our family summer holiday time – our spirited conversations over dinner, on car journeys and long walks– reminiscing about previous holidays, singing, dancing and sharing funny moments. It is our chance, in our otherwise frenzied existence, to unwind and just be together.

At Barefoot Books we believe that small is beautiful. From small, home-based beginnings twenty years ago, we have grown into an international, award-winning independent children’s book publisher. We are committed to cultural and economic diversity; and this is reflected in both our publishing program and in our business model. With this philosophy at the heart of our company, we have decided to end our relationship with Amazon.

I had a rare, rewarding experience this year – a moment when all the various strands of my life seemed to align, offering a glimmer of validation for my role as a parent and for my work at Barefoot. In that moment, I was able to put all of the complexities of my life in refreshingly simple perspective. In August, I embarked on an unforgettable adventure with my eldest daughter Meaghan to create a children’s library in Sebikotane, a small village in Senegal in West Africa.
