Adults aren’t the only ones who feel the stress of the busy holiday season. Between parties, entertaining, shopping, wrapping, decorating, hosting visitors, baking, and other festivities that go along with the winter season, it can be exhausting even to think about, never mind take part in!

With so much excitement and expectation in the air, even the calmest of children go a bit ‘batty’ during the season.  So what to do? As much as you can, try to stick to your child’s routine. When that isn’t possible, here are a few activities that may help soothe holiday stress in children…and adults!

  • Get creative, but take it gently! Here are a few calming craft ideas, many of which involve simple items found in many homes, such as paper, glue, and scissors. Browse arts and crafts activities
  • Sing! Music often lifts children’s spirits and helps them refocus. Songs are also great for burning off steam when children get up and dance. Here are some of the most popular Barefoot tunes. Watch our animated singalongs
  • Listen to a story. You can discover some of the most popular Barefoot stories on our podcast. They are often best enjoyed with a pillow and a warm blanket. Don’t be surprised if your child is in dreamland at the end of the tale. Listen to our podcasts
