Food trucks are becoming one of the hottest trends in dining out here in the States. Many estimates claim there are several thousand food trucks throughout the US, with more than 10 popping up in major cities each week. If you haven’t had a chance to taste for yourself what it’s all about, maybe this interview with Ed Cornelia, owner and operator of the popular Silk Road BBQ truck in Boston, will be all you need to become a food truck-aholic. Every November, the BBC’s charity, Children in Need, is at the centre of a nationwide fundraising campaign on behalf of disadvantaged children. Children in Need’s vision is to ensure that every child in the UK is safe, happy, secure and able to fulfil their potential. Friday was national ‘Children in Need’ day. At Barefoot Books, north Oxford, we had our first fund-raising storython; a ‘pay to add a sentence’ creative storywriting contest, and utterly irresistible spotty sock biscuits on sale in the Storytellers’ Cafe. We added in face-painting here, and a little African drumming there and everyone had a lot of fun! See below for a glimpse of some of our antics.

Author and explorer Nick Crane was there to share stories from his many travels, sign books and let some very lucky kids try on his hat collection from countries around the world. And on top of all that, there was a very special and delicious Barefoot Books World Atlas cake! For those of you who weren’t able to be there, here’s a look at the festivities!
